Zoology

Science of Zoology exposes students to fascinating scientific innovations such as mapping of genes, advances in immunology, drug designing, drug targets, stem cell applications, identification of genes for longer life span, pathogen biology, cancer biology, bio persity and environmental conservation, creation of eco-friendly and smart cities. Study of Zoology also brings about sensitization of students regarding human health, environment conservation and resource optimization. Knowledge of Zoology also opens the path for unconventional avenues like bio-design and bio-entrepreneurship.

Most of us are drawn to Zoology by a fascination with animals and a curiosity-based drive to understand how they function, behave and evolve. However, the study of zoology is more important in the 21st century than ever. As a Zoologist, you will have the opportunity to play a part in understanding how organisms play a part in various ecosystems, and how we as humans can try and avoid damaging the wildlife of the world.

Since Zoologists study life at many levels, from molecules to ecosystems and beyond, the student taking this course will develop knowledge of the full breadth of life, its mechanisms, and the many recent developments in the subject. The course also combines technical, analytical and communication skills in a way that would make our graduates employable.

Because modern zoology is interdisciplinary we believe that you need to be aware of the breadth of animal biology, from the molecular to the ecological. After graduation in Zoology, the students can opt for various post-graduate programs in the field of Zoology, Life sciences, Biosciences, Forensic science, Biomedical technology, Human Genetics, Environmental Science, Food and Nutrition sciences, MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology), etc…

Course Highlights

Typically offered as a Bachelor of Science (BSc), Zoology course will often start with a general study of the key concepts of biosciences, including essential molecules, genes and cells. As well as focusing on topics such as taxonomy, ecology, basic biochemistry, biopersity and animal behaviour, you will learn how to conserve and care for animal life. You’ll also look at the zoology of invertebrates and vertebrates, primates and marine life, Human physiology, Parasitology, Cell Biology and Economic Zoology.

Career Opportunities in Government and Private sectors

Since Zoology is a vast field of Life Science, the job opportunities in government sector are also enormous as that in the private sector. Various government departments such as the UPSC, GPSC, Forest Department, Forensic science Department, Fisheries Department etc. conducts examination for recruitment of the candidates. Those having interest in research field can look out for a suitable opening in various research organizations such as BARC, ISRO, GEER, ZSI, WII, GBB, GPCB, MNP & S, GES, BNHS, NIOH, NIF etc. Not only this, there are many other Private Pharma companies, Pathology laboratories, Private Research Institutes, IVF clinics which provides good jobs to the Zoology degree holders.
